Stress in Teachers

Stress among teachers is really inevitable and typical. With all the varying tasks at hand every single day, educators often get to take a million of things every day in response to different demands. Therefore, it is no wonder that statistics show that mentors are often more stressed. It has been noted that education tops this among other professions.

I myself am a teacher and I was not spared with this kind of stress. Usually this activates when there are deadlines to meet and huge workloads to accomplish. But in reality it is part of being a mentor, the most we can do is make the most of it and battle to prevent it. When we are experiencing stress in teachers, there are some things we mustn’t do in order not to affect the work we are having. Let me pinpoint some teaching duties to keep away from when under anxiety.

1. Discussing in class. The most important thing a teacher does is to lecture lessons in class. But if you're stressed, you should not do it. The class atmosphere will be greatly affected by your mood. The trend is, there would be an outpouring of frustrations from your end and from the students as well. Another thing is that your temper is greatly shown and students could end up being frustrated too. Worst case scenario, you can even hurt a student or two.

2. Grading of papers. This is another task to stay away from when a teacher is on stress. Grading of papers, regardless if it’s objective or essays must be done in the right mind set. Our opinion and emotions should not be clouded by initial feelings of hatred and uncontrolled feelings. If ever you insist on doing this, you may be giving low grades to the students, regardless of correct answers. Of course you would not like them to protest with their cards amidst the school year. However, if the test is purely objective as a true or false or mere identification, then you can pursue the procedure.

3. Preparation of lectures. Another thing that a teacher should not do when the tension is present is to prepare the discussions. Since your mind and emotions are changing to a negative slope, your brain is not inclined with the manual. With this, you could end up with lessons that are just half heartedly done with no sense at all. Even if you are an experienced teacher lecturing it for many years, the probability of generating a good lecture while under stress is low. To the extent possible, reduce stress, and then you can start establishing your lesson plans.

These are just some of the things that I suggest teachers should do when experiencing apprehension. It is quite evident that it can certainly affect our work and life in general. Therefore, learn some easy solutions in terms of stress in teachers in order not to influence our teaching duties and responsibilities.
