Reasons To Quit Teaching

In the back of an educator’s mind certainly they had accumulated plenty of reasons to quit teaching. But generally, the assessment is that these reasons are so slight that can be easily resolved. Moreover, there are many teachers - possibly colleagues - who have also experienced the same problems of teaching, and still decided to continue with it.

Leaving teaching can mean cutting an income source. Thus, before ending a noble work, think things over and over again. Make sure that your reasons are effective and suitable enough so as not to waste your time and effort. In line with this, if you have been rethinking the possibility of getting out, here are some good reasons that can only mean a possible profession quit.

Reason # 1: The school feels like a chore. If you feel you need to crawl to school on Monday mornings or the rest of the week, this is a clear sign that you are no longer enthusiastic with the profession. Teaching requires much hard work, patience and effort. On the other hand, in spite all these, this can be very rewarding and fulfilling when you see a student grow intellectually. However, if you no longer find an essence or spark in your work, then this is a definite time for you to go. With such an attitude, you no longer help yourself or the students. So if you feel sad, disappointed and gloomy because of the job, better resort to quitting the teaching profession at once.

Reason # 2: Physical and mental disabilities. As humans, we know how fragile our physiques are especially when we age. There are many reasons for such impairment, such as age or an illness. If you happen to be an educator on the verge of retirement, you will be given options to remain as a part-time employee or better entrust the profession to a new breed of mentors. If you think you already are unable to share your wisdom and knowledge because of some physical pain, do not endanger your health. The least you can do is to take care of it. You can still love teaching even if you are not part of a school, but listen to your body. This is a huge reason already to put an end in teaching.

Reason # 3: Looking for more. We can not deny that at some point in our lives we wish for something better. It is our knowledge that a teacher is really paid low. Therefore, if you believe that being an educator is not enough to keep your finances - especially your household expenses, looking for another job is indeed a valid reason to quit. I know that deep inside you really would want a better life for your family and children that you know teaching can’t give. Thus, if there is a better chance of employment that goes beyond educating, by all means grab it. It would be hard for you to stay and you know in the long run you would be regretting it.

If you have been destined for other reasons such as having a noisy class and tons of daily workload, these are minimal and can be resolved immediately and effectively. But if you had any of the reasons stated, then it may be time to put your place out in order for you not to affect more lives in a negative way. As mentioned above, these are indeed valid reasons to quit teaching.
